On 28 May 1974, members of the neo-fascist group Ordine Nuovo detonated a bomb during a trade union rally at Piazza della Loggia – eight people were killed and over a hundred injured. The attack was part of the so-called Strategia della tensione, in which far-right groups deliberately used terror to create political instability. The trials to identify and convict the perpetrators are ongoing until today.
